Arts & Crafts

The Lake District deserves a better reputation for its community of artists. It is a fantastic environment for the creative arts to flourish and well worth exploring the local galleries to discover for yourself. Landscape painting is clearly an important part of the artistic life here but the wealth of different subjects in oil, acrylic, watercolour, photography, sculpture, pottery, jewellery and weaving is quite a surprise.
For those interested in the performing arts, we are lucky to have one of the best regional theatres in the country at Keswick’s Theatre by the lake. With eight plays in repertoire from early Spring to late Autumn, the Theatre is guaranteed to entertain and challenge audiences across a broad range of tastes.
For the serious shopper and culture-vulture, Keswick with its theatre, galleries and coffee shops has all the right ingredients. Avoid the crowds by coming in early Spring or late Autumn – we think it’s a secret worth sharing.
