We are passionate about our food. We offer a truly special dining experience, where you can enjoy a table d’hôte menu that constantly changes according to local, seasonal availability. From the moment you enter, you are made to feel special by our warm, friendly and attentive team.

The evening begins in the lounge, where we provide you with a complimentary drink and canapés to nibble. These are both enjoyed comfortably, where subtle lighting and traditional features make you feel right at home. We invite you to join us from 6.30pm.

Dinner is then served around 7.30pm when you are guided into our luxurious oak paneled dining room, where you can enjoy a roaring log fire on cooler days and wonderful views of the garden and fells beyond. Fresh bread is provided which sets the taste buds off nicely. We offer a range of starters, main courses and puddings which can all be seen in the sample menu. For a small supplement, we like to put something a little extra special on the menu from time to time, and also offer a fine selection of cheeses as an additional course.

All of our food is to an exceptional level of quality and is all locally sourced where possible. We intend to exceed your expectations through the taste of our food, and we are delighted that recent feedback suggests we are succeeding. However, we never rest on our laurels – we constantly strive to make this the best little restaurant and hotel in the Lake District.

It wouldn’t be fair to say goodbye at this point. So, all of our guests are welcomed back into the lounge to relax for a little longer. Tea, Coffee and home made fudge complete the evening perfectly.

Sunday Lunch

Book Sunday Lunch at Winder Hall, our luxurious, welcoming Country House Hotel near Cockermouth, in the Lake District.

Come with friends and family to enjoy a delicious three course lunch in our elegant oak-panelled dining room. In addition to delectable starters, refreshers and desserts, taste tempting main courses of such delights as:

Local lamb with a lemon & thyme stuffing
Traditional roast beef with all the trimmings!
Fresh pork with a rich apple sauce on a bed of creamy mash
Salmon fillet with a prawn and dill sauce
Seasonal risotto with wild mushroom veloute

All served with freshly prepared, seasonal vegetables.

Dine with us for £19.95 per head including coffee, and homemade fudge to round off your visit to Winder Hall. Children are very welcome at £12.50 per head.

Afternoon Tea

We’ve become a bit of a magnet for passers-by since we introduced our afternoon teas last year. In particular cyclists on the coast to coast often find themselves stopping for a light lunch or afternoon tea before heading over the Whinlatter Pass, and enjoying the rest of the Lake District!

Enjoy a selection of sandwiches, cakes, tray bakes, scone, jam and cream; accompanied with a fine choice of teas and coffee. All of these are presented on traditional platters that emphasise the quality and experience of Winder Hall.

You can enjoy this in front of a roaring fire in the lounge in colder weather, or on warmer days why not take afternoon tea on the terrace overlooking the wonderful Lake District Fells?

We are strong believers in quality and we can guarantee that it will have been made fresh in our own kitchen, just the way it should be. Stopping for tea is a tradition worth hanging on to!
