Dining at Winder

While staying with us as a guest at Winder Hall, our unique and intimate country house hotel near Cockermouth in the Lake District, we love to treat you to really fine dining every day. From exceptional breakfasts (see our fabulous reviews on brekkies!) to delicious evening dining, we will ensure you never go hungry! There’s a personal touch about Winder, and you are welcome to pop your head into the kitchen to see what’s going on! We always love a chat, although excuse us if we don’t have so long to linger when we’re full steam ahead preparing your feast!
Breakfast
One thing you will find different about Winder Hall is the kitchen. Unlike big hotels, our kitchen isn’t the domain of Nick and Helen, our chefs. Everyone seems to pop in for a chat and to find out what’s cooking. Breakfast is a leisurely affair, served from 8.30-9.30. Even if you’re keen to be away into the hills, a good breakfast will set you up for the day… and possibly make you linger in the dining room for a little longer than you’d planned.
The Quality of our ingredients and plenty of choice make for a good breakfast. Just imagine this…
Freshly-brewed coffee, freshly-squeezed orange juice, fruit salad, home-cured bacon, organic Cumberland sausage, perhaps gently poached smoked haddock, not forgetting the freshest free-range eggs from our own hens… you can even pop down and collect them yourself if you would enjoy to!
Afternoon Tea

As a guest at Winder Hall, we love to offer you complimentary tea or coffee and delicious home baked cakes. Enjoy this at your leisure once you have settled in, and if staying for longer you can look forward to this every day you are with us. Relax in the lounge in front of our roaring log fire, or on sunnier days take it on the terrace overlooking the stunning Lake District fells that surround us.
We are strong believers in quality and we can guarantee that it will have been made fresh in our own kitchen, just the way it should be. Teatime is a tradition worth hanging on to!
Evening Dining in our Restaurant

We are passionate about our food. We offer an award winning dining experience, and from the moment you enter, you are made to feel special by our warm, friendly and attentive team.
The evening begins in the lounge, where we serve you with a complimentary drink and canapés to nibble. You are then guided into our luxurious oak paneled restaurant. You are greeted to a recently lit log fire and wonderful views of the garden and fells beyond. Fresh bread is provided which sets the taste buds off nicely. We offer a range of starters, main courses and puddings, which are selected according to seasonal availability. For a small supplement, we usually include something a little extra on the main courses, and also a fine selection of exceptional cheeses for afterwards if you fancy a fourth course.
All of our food is to an exceptional level of quality and is all locally sourced where possible. We intend to exceed your expectations through the taste of our food, and we’re delighted that the feedback we receive suggests we are succeeding. However, we never rest on our laurels and constantly strive to offer a really special experience.
After enjoying your delectable dining, we welcome you back into the lounge to relax for a little longer. Tea, Coffee and home made fudge complete the evening perfectly.
