Packhorse Cottage

Self Catering Cottage near Cockermouth, Buttermere & Keswick in Lake District

If you are looking for a self catering holiday cottage in the lake district – look no further!

Packhorse Cottage is a beautiful Lakeland cottage set in the stunning vale of Lorton near Cockermouth and Buttermere. The cottage sleeps 5 in two doubles and a single bedroom, and can accommodate more in downstairs rooms if required (small additional charge applies). To visit the website please click here.

With a well equipped kitchen, an elegant sitting room with TV and wifi, a cosy snug, and a lovely garden with green slate furniture, you have everything you need for a perfect holiday away from it all. It has its own drive and the garden is largely concealed from the road so you can enjoy your privacy.

Situated immediately adjacent to Winder Hall’s main drive, it only takes a couple of minutes to reach the hot tub, sauna, restaurant and pretty grounds, making it an ideal location for your holiday get-away – the best of both worlds! In addition to the restaurant and facilities at Winder Hall, there is a wonderful pub The Wheatsheaf only a hop, step and jump from the door. It serves great beers and pub food!

You have access to some of the country’s most beautiful walks from your doorstep. We have plenty of maps and guidance at Winder Hall if you’d like to pop in and take a look. We also offer guests of Packhorse Cottage a reduced dining rate at Winder. See the dining page for more information. Please mention this on booking your table in the restaurant.

The cycling in the area is exceptional, with trails and routes for every ability. We are also just off the Coast to Coast (C2C) route. If you don’t want to bring your own bikes, we can even arrange for you to get a whole day’s bike hire from Cyclewise in the stunning Whinlatter Forest, just a couple of miles away. Amazing mountain trails, great cafe, adventure playground for the kids… a wonderful facility really close to Lorton.

On arrival you will find a welcome pack in the kitchen including tea, herbal tea, coffee, hot chocolate, milk in the fridge, bread, six free-range eggs from our own hens and Winder Hall Country House traybakes.

The team at Winder Hall are close by, so if you need any help we’re just a short walk away, and will always be delighted to help.

We look forward to welcoming you soon to Packhorse Cottage.
